Lost in the crowds

25 Nov – 1 Dec 2025

Somehow, I ended up saving Tokyo for last! Most people start their trip to Japan here, but since I'd arrived by ferry from South Korea and traveled across the country, Tokyo became my final stop. And this time, I had a whole week to explore it.

I also decided to treat myself a little. Instead of my usual budget accommodation, I booked a small apartment all to myself. It was quite expensive compared to what I normally spend, but after so much traveling, I really wanted to have my own space and enjoy a little extra comfort.

And then there was the shopping! I'd heard that some quality brands and products were more affordable in Japan, so I took the opportunity to look around. I ended up buying sportswear, cycling clothes, two pairs of running shoes (one for the trails and one for the road), and a few other things. Honestly, a good part of my Tokyo experience was simply wandering around the city, exploring different neighborhoods, and discovering all sorts of shops along the way.

Tokyo was fascinating, but also quite overwhelming. The enormous crowds, the constant movement, and the endless shops and products everywhere could be exhausting. I couldn't help thinking about how much we produce and consume, and at times it all felt excessive. I definitely had mixed feelings about that side of the city.

But there were also so many interesting things. I was fascinated by the way people dressed, especially on the trains and in the streets. There was so much individuality and creativity in Japanese fashion, and some outfits almost made me feel like I'd stepped into an anime! And just like everywhere else I'd been in Japan, I found the people incredibly kind, friendly, and pleasant.

Tokyo was an interesting way to end my journey, full of contrasts, little discoveries, and a few shopping bags too! Looking back on the whole trip, I feel so happy that I finally got to explore Japan, a country I'd dreamed of visiting for so many years. It was such an amazing experience, and I already know I want to come back and discover even more of it.
