I finally made it to the Amazon, entering through the Peruvian side, with a trip to Iquitos and Nauta. It had always been a dream of mine, and being there felt unreal. I found a jungle trip that was surprisingly affordable, around €50 per day, with the flexibility to add as many days as I wanted. If I had more time, I would’ve stayed a week, but I ended up doing three intense, beautiful days in the jungle.
We could choose our own activities, and there were multiple guides who took us deep into the forest. The place we stayed had only two hours of electricity per day, and the rest of the time, it was just us and the jungle. No distractions... only sounds of wildlife, still rivers at the end of the dry season, and trails winding into the unknown.
An amazing experience was a night hike, walking through the dark with flashlights, spotting insects and creatures that only come out when the sun disappears.
I took hundreds of wildlife photos, living out a piece of my childhood dream...searching for animals in the wild, not in books or documentaries, but with my own eyes.
