On our way from the Austrian Alps to Croatia, we drove along the Großglockner High Alpine Road, one of Austria’s most famous mountain routes. I had been looking forward to it, especially to seeing Großglockner itself, the highest peak in the country.
The road was impressive, with wide turns and great views, and it honestly reminded me of the Transfăgărășan back in Romania. That same feeling of weaving through the mountains, climbing higher and higher with each curve.
But the weather didn’t quite play along. The sky was filled with clouds, and most of the peaks were hidden behind them. I was a bit disappointed I couldn’t see the top of Großglockner.
Still, even with the clouds, the landscape was beautiful in its own way. Moody, quiet, and full of atmosphere.
