A little fear, a lot of excitement

In the middle of March, we decided to climb Retezat Peak, and for me, this was going to be a completely new kind of mountain adventure!
I'd been curious about winter mountaineering for years, but I'd never actually climbed a higher mountain peak in Romania in proper winter conditions, with snow, crampons, and an ice axe. Being there with Gabriel, who had experience, gave me the confidence to go for it.
And what an experience it was! The snowy mountains were absolutely beautiful, and I was so excited to finally be doing something I'd wanted to experience for such a long time. But I have to admit, there were a few moments when the adrenaline really kicked in!
At one point, we took a steeper route up the mountain, and climbing that snowy slope with crampons was quite an adventure for me. I could almost feel my legs shaking from the nerves! I was still getting used to walking with crampons, and part of me was genuinely worried I'd somehow trip over my own feet or scratch myself with those sharp spikes. Looking back, it's a little funny, but at the time I was definitely concentrating on every step!
Thankfully, everything went well, and as we continued, I became more comfortable with the equipment and more confident in my movements. Reaching the summit felt wonderful, not just because of the beautiful views, but because I'd finally experienced something I'd been dreaming about for years.
It was such a beautiful day in the mountains, full of excitement, a little fear, and plenty of learning. And I came back feeling more experienced, more confident, and even more excited about future winter adventures!
