After a calm day exploring Bilbao, I headed out to see more of the Basque coast. My first stop was Gaztelugatxe, this wild, iconic place I had wanted to see for a long time. It’s a small island connected to the mainland by a winding stone bridge and a long staircase with more than 200 steps. At the top sits a little chapel dedicated to Saint John. The whole setting feels dramatic, with cliffs, crashing waves, and wind that makes you feel like you’re somewhere between a legend and a dream.
After taking some photos and enjoying the view from Gaztelugatxe, I continued toward Sopelana Beach. I had heard it was a great sunset spot, and it didn’t disappoint. The sky turned golden and soft, painting the waves and cliffs in warm tones. It was the kind of light that makes you want to slow down and just watch.
That evening, one of my friends was surfing there, so I took the chance to do a small photoshoot of him with the sun setting behind. I also photographed other surfers, capturing silhouettes against the glowing ocean.
It was one of those perfect afternoons where nature, light, and energy all align. I didn’t expect this coastline to impress me so much, but the beautiful sunsets there stayed with me.
